The executive summary of the Report of the Pensions Commission is attached. The recommendsations contained have the potential for wide-ranging increases in PRSI. The area that could l impact most on retired civil and public servants is referenced on Page 23. The proposal is effectively to impose a % PRSI charge on all non DEASP pensions bringing public sector pensions and private pensions into the PRSI net while also proposeing to remove the age exemption for PRSI
NOTE: A % of this type, if introduced for PRSI, can always be raised.
These proposed measures could impact adversely on large numbers of people (not just public-sector retirees). Please bring this to the attention of members and other fgroups with similar interests.
It is possible that funding gaps in the budget by expanding and elevating charges like PRSI will go unnoticed.
