IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE PUBLIC SERVICE ‘ORIGINAL’ SPOUSES’ and CHILDREN’S CONTRIBUTORY PENSION SCHEMES
At our 2017 AGM (25 May 2017), the following motion was passed:
Revised Spouses and Children Scheme. That this AGM instructs the Council of the RCPSA to seek a once-off option, for members who retired before 1 April 2011 and entered into civil partnership or same-sex marriage on or after that date, to opt in to the Revised Spouses and Children Scheme, subject to the appropriate repayment of contributions.
The motion was followed up by Council over a period of time. It was subsequently overtaken by separate legal developments – ref the Social Welfare, Pensions and Civil Registration Act 2018. Council continued to follow up with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform with regard to the Act’s implementation in the public service. We are happy to report that today, 30 November 2020, the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform has published a Circular (Circular 18/2020), entitled
Recognition of same sex marriages/civil partnerships under Public Service ‘Original’ Spouses’ and Children’s Contributory Pension Schemes.
We hope that it will be of benefit to the members covered by the Circular.
