Local Property Tax (LPT) – new valuation required by 7 November 2025
The liability date for LPT is 1 November each year. This means that your property is liable for LPT in 2026 if it is a residential property on 1 November 2025. To check if you and your property are liable for LPT, please see Local Property Tax (LPT) liability.
LPT charges for 2022-2025 were based on valuations as of 1 November 2021. Updated valuations for 1 November 2025 are now required. Your LPT charge is based on your valuation of your property as at 1 November 2025. Your valuation of your property on this date determines your LPT charge for each year from 2026 to 2030.
If you are liable for LPT on 1 November 2025, you must complete the following three steps for your property, for the year 2026:
- Determine the value of your property, as at the valuation date 1 November 2025.
- Submit this valuation to Revenue on your LPT return, by 7 November 2025.
- Confirm your LPT payment arrangement for the year 2026.
Revenue have provided an online interactive valuation guide – LPT. The Revenue website reminds us that LPT is a self-assessed tax; that you are responsible for determining your property’s market value and that the interactive tool is a guide only.
Confirmation that your LPT is up-to-date is required for various processes such as selling your house or applying for a Local Authority grant (eg to install a ramp or a stairlift).
Annual income tax returns
It is recommended that members make annual income tax returns. Verification that one’s tax affairs are in order is required for a number of purposes.
Members are strongly recommended to check out the Decision Support Service website, particularly in relation to Enduring Power of Attorney and Advance health directives – www.decisionsupportservice.ie. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland on its website points out that the fact that someone is your next of kin, doesn’t mean they are automatically allowed to make any legal or medical decisions on your behalf. Next of Kin simply means who to contact in an emergency. Legal aid might be available depending on financial circumstances – Assisted Decision-Making Act 2015 – Legal Aid Board
